Open minded? What about the After-Life?
Are you of an open mind? Consider how many people call themselves open minded just so that they don't have to decide what world view they are going to call their own. Let your world view search stop here. Open your mind to the possibility that being open isn't always the smartest perspective.
There is one Truth. If you have an open mind, you can see it logically. Given a set of circumstances, the result will always be the same. We sometimes get confused when there are elements added that we cannot see; things as time, experience, free thought, forces, etc. Given the proper set of circumstances, a cow will always birth a cow. A projectile will always continue to project in open space. Given any set of circumstances, there is always an underlying, consistent, constant truth. You say you have an open mind. Try it. Find an example where there isn't an ultimate truth at work.
If there is only one underlying philosophical Truth about death and the afterlife, what might it be? I can see two broad categories. One is that it matters, the other is that it does not. I am not going to argue that it doesn't matter, because if that were the case, it wouldn't matter if you believed that it did. Within both of those categories are two more broad considerations. Does anyone else care about us? As the ancient cultures showed, we may have to face this trial alone. Only what they leave in our graves and in our minds will we own for help and comfort in the afterlife. From here, there is no comfort, no certainty. I cannot show conclusively that nobody cares for me after my spirit continues its journey. (Remember that if we have no spirit, it doesn't matter.) I want to believe that someone cares for me. Without care in the afterlife, I have no reason for being.
So then who is it that cares for me? Can I say family and friends? How can I attain this help? Will it be obvious? From here, it's all speculation. You with an open mind have probably heard anywhere from the talking rats will guide you to you will have all you need inside yourself. I challenge you to toss away your prior conceptions and open your mind once more. Given the circumstances, Ian McCormack lived this afterlife scenario. Since he came back, he's gotten information from the one True Guide of the universe. Being open to the wrong guide can lead you down a dangerous path. Hear what he has to say about the perspectives of Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Darwinism, and Christianity. He speaks from his experience.
